This home came to us off-market during COVID right as many buyers started holding off from acquiring more real estate. We knew the value of this neighborhood and the potential for the home, so we didn’t hesitate.
Much to the shock of his family, the young owner had passed suddenly and the decisions on his assets were now in the hand of his sister. Despite not having been in the home for many years – and therefore unaware of the condition – she shared the good times they had in this home and desired to hold onto those memories when her brother and his house were all in better conditions.
It was a very special project for us as our goal was to make it a beautiful home for the next owner so they could create memories with loved ones as well.
A couple major changes made a big difference. First, the front door was moved to the other side of the balcony to add more sitting area outside but also more living inside. There was a staircase that started in the middle of the living room. That staircase and the location of the front door left a very small and awkward living room. Victorians are naturally choppy on the inside with small rooms, so an additional 500sf on the main floor for a laundry room, as well as a bedroom, bathroom, and closet, provided a much-needed primary suite.
Upon completion of the project, we were able to walk the former owner’s sister through the project and share the design and renovation details. With tears in her eyes, she approved.
